URI College Republicans Lead 9/11 Memorial Effort

Kingston, RI – September 10, 2007:  A broad coalition of University of Rhode Island’s campus organizations under the leadership of the University of Rhode Island College Republicans and the Student Senate have organized a memorial on the Quad throughout the day on September 11, 2007 to memorialize the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Many in the campus community have forgotten the vulnerability all Americans felt after witnessing thousands of innocent people murdered by terrorists on September 11, 2001. The day’s events will encourage students, alumni, and community members to reflect on the country’s current course of action and to remember those who lost their lives defending America.

“We are proud to lead the effort in remembering those lost on that fateful day,” said Spokesman Ryan Bilodeau. “We are happy that other student groups with the help of Student Senate President Neil Leston have joined in our efforts to honor those who died innocently and those who have subsequently given their lives to protect our freedom.”

The groups participating on the quad consists of campus organizations and individuals dedicated to ensuring that The University of Rhode Island properly memorializes the 6th anniversary of those murdered on September 11, 2001. These groups include Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic Council, the Student Senate, the Student Alumni Association, the Union Board and others.

The University of Rhode Island College Republicans is a grassroots student organization whose purposes are to contribute to the growth and influence of the Republican Party and its ideologies on campus.  For more information about the University of Rhode Island College Republicans, please visit the statewide organization's website at http://urigop.org or contact its Spokesman, Ryan Bilodeau at 401-374-7963.
